Friday Night Around UC Sports Nation: Clarkrange Girls Top Clay, White Co. Sweeps UHS
Five district games featuring eight Upper Cumberland teams were played Friday night across the area. Clarkrange and Clay County squared off in a District 7-1A match-up featuring two State Tournament teams from last year. Addy Stowers scored 23 points, and the Lady Buffaloes (7-1) led most of the way in a 64-58 win. Briley Burchett posted a double-double for the Lady Bulldogs (5-1), with 21 points and 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, the White County Warriorettes removed Upperman from the ranks of the unbeaten with a 44-39 win in Baxter in the District 7-3A opener for both teams. The Warriorettes (7-1) will host DeKalb County in their district home opener on Tuesday, while Upperman (6-1) heads to Florida for the SAMCO Classic.
In other Friday night highlights, Cassie Gallagher scored 14 points as Cookeville (8-0) remained unbeaten with a 47-41 win at Stewarts Creek.
Shayla Wood scored 24 points and pulled down nine rebounds, as the Pickett County Lady Bobcats (9-1) throttled Gordonsville, 62-50. The Bobcats (7-1) made it a clean sweep for Pickett County, as Zach Amonett pumped in 25 in an 81-54 Win.
White County also completed a sweep in Baxter, as the Warriors got by the Bees, 44-41, to give head coach Eric Mitchell his 500th career coaching victory.
