Tuesday Around UC Sports Nation: White, Warren Girls Play For Sonic Shootout Title

The White County Warriorettes and the Warren County Lady Pioneers have met once already this season, but when the two teams meet on Wednesday, the 2021 Sonic Shootout title will be on the line. The Warriorettes (10-1) earned their way to the tournament title game with a dominating win over Clarkrange, 79-54, while the Lady Pioneers (10-2) sunned the York Institute Dragonettes, 46-31, to punch their ticket. White County handed Warren County a 57-47 loss in McMinnville, back on November 30. The two teams will also play again in the regular season, January 31, in Sparta.

Meanwhile, York Institute and Clarkrange, who were scheduled to face off in the consolation game, will not play.

Elsewhere on the girls’ side, Shayla Wood posted a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds, as Pickett County (11-2) earned a trip to the championship game of the Big South Fork Christmas Tournament in Oneida, with a 51-46 victory over Sunbright. The Lady Bobcats will meet Powell for the title.

Cookeville (12-0) will also make a championship game appearance at the More Than Basketball Tournament at Lipscomb Academy, after a 60-37 rout of the host, Lady Mustangs, on Tuesday. KK Graves led the way with 17 points.

In boys’ action, several teams will be playing in the consolation game of their respective tournaments on Wednesday, after Tuesday night’s match-ups. Warren County and White County will meet in the Sonic Shootout consolation game, after the Pioneers edged York Institute, 78-76, and the Warriors dispatched Coffee County, 63-51. The Warriors (7-2) topped the Pioneers (7-5), 46-43, in McMinnville, back on November 30.

Pickett County will play for third place in the Big South Fork Christmas Tournament in Oneida, after a 74-71 loss to Powell in the tournament semifinals. The Bobcats (8-3) will take on Oneida. Cookeville, meanwhile, plays in the consolation game of the More Than Basketball Tournament at Lipscomb Academy, after a 69-54 loss to the host Mustangs. The Cavaliers (6-7) battle Clarksville Academy on Wednesday.
