Tuesday Around UC Sports Nation: Cookeville to Play for Marlin Tournament Championship

The Cookeville Cavaliers have endured an up-and-down season, of sorts, throughout the first two months of the regular season, but the Cavs have put it together this week in Panama City, FL. On Tuesday, Cookeville (8-8) knocked off the host school of the Marlin Christmas Tournament, Arnold, FL, 52-36, to earn a berth in Wednesday’s tournament championship. Cookeville is scheduled to play the winner from the top side of their bracket, Wednesday evening, at 7:30 p.m. CST.

Meanwhile, the Pickett County Bobcats will look to go 3-0 at the Innisfree Hotels Tournament in Pensacola Beach, FL, after crushing Silliman Institute of Mississippi, 61-25 on Tuesday. The Bobcats (12-3) breezed out to a 19-3 lead after the first period and never looked back. Hunter Wattenbarger tallied 19 points, while Zach Amonett added 12. Pickett County will play Wayne County at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday.

In girls’ action, Clay County (10-1) opened play in the Richland Classic in Lynnville with a 65-28 rout of Santa Fe. Livingston Academy opened play at the Carolina Invitational in Charleston, SC, with a 46-39 win over New Hope, AL, while White County suffered a semifinal setback at the Cactus Jam in Phoenix, AZ, with a 71-45 loss to Olmsted Falls, OH.
