TSSAA Releases Statement, Delays Start For Close Contact Sports

The TSSAA announced on Tuesday that all close contact sports will be delayed to comply with Governor Bill Lee’s state of emergency order.

As a result, football and girls soccer will not begin on their regularly scheduled dates. They are not allowed to hold any competition or scrimmages with other schools, nor will they be allowed to have any close contact activities during their practices, according to the release.

This will carry until the end of the order, set now for August 29. These limitations also extend to basketball and wrestling as well.

The release goes on to say that the TSSAA is currently working to develop regular season and postseason options for the affected sports, and that the Board of Control will ultimately decide how that will shake out.

Golf, cross country and volleyball are unaffected by the order at this current moment in time.
