Today In UC Sports Nation: DeKalb Co Takes On Macon Co For First-Place

Friday night in UC Sports Nation will be highlighted by a big-time region matchup in Lafeyette between the 5-3 DeKalb County Tigers and the 6-1 Macon County Tigers.

Both teams are 2-0 in region play, meaning the winner will have sole possession of the top spot.

The Livingston Lady Cats won the District Championship over Cumberland County on Thursday by a final score of 3-2. Tied at 2 with 15 minutes remaining in regulation, Senior Jena Harris scored on a penalty kick to give the Lady Cats the lead for good. They will host Scott on Tuesday in the Region Tournament.

The Cookeville Lady Cavs soccer team defeated top-seeded Warren County in the District Championship by a final score of 3-1 in overtime. Senior Audrey Birdwell scored a goal, and assisted on Avery Brown’s go-ahead goal in overtime. The Lady Cavs will host Walker Valley on Tuesday in the Region Tournament.

The Lady Cavs Volleyball team were also victorious, as they defeated Coffee County in their Sectional match to clinch a berth in the State Tournament. They will play Science Hill on Tuesday at noon at Siegel High School.

Cookeville battles Siegel (0-7) at home with a chance to keep their playoff hopes alive. Currently tied with Blackman for fifth in the region, the Cavaliers’ next three games (Siegel, At Rockvale, Blackman) hold tremendous playoff implications.

The Warren County Pioneers look to run their record to 8-0 when they travel to Manchester to battle Coffee County. A win for the Pioneers also sets them up for a date with Riverdale the following week in a game that could feature two teams with perfect region records.

The Upperman Bees sit in first-place in their Region with a one-game lead over Smith County. They take on Grundy County, looking to earn their fourth straight win.
