Tigers Use Strong Second Half To Hold Off Van Buren

The DeKalb County Tigers scored 13 points in the third and fourth quarters to defeat the Van Buren County Eagles 51-48 Tuesday night in Spencer.

DeKalb held a 15-3 lead after the first quarter, only to see that 12 point-lead dwindle down to a one-point lead at halftime.

Van Buren’s Austin Hodges and DeKalb’s Brayden Antoniak tied for the lead in scoring with 17 points a piece.

For DeKalb, Dallas Cook contributed eight points and Michael Elswick and Luke Jenkins each scored seven points.

Dakota White dropped in five points for the Tigers, and Luras Hale and Elishah Ramos each knocked down a three for their only field goals.

DeKalb County converted eight of 15 free throws and hit seven shots from long distance.

Van Buren’s Jason Stevens hit four threes to give him 12 points on the night, while Brad Burke added seven points for the Eagles.

John Allen scored five points and Jacob Guy hit a second-quarter three for his only basket. Steven England and Will Wisner each scored two points for Van Buren.

The Eagles hit 10 threes against DeKalb, but were only 8-16 from the free throw line.

DeKalb host Pickett County Saturday at 4 P.M. in Smithville, and Van Buren plays again Thursday at Boyd Buchanan at 5 P.M.
