Tigers Drop Slugfest To Warren Co

Warren County knocked off DeKalb County, on the road in Smithville, Friday night 30-24. Warren County’s CJ Taylor had a huge start to his senior campaign with 370 total yards, three touchdowns, a forced fumble and an interception.

Taylor took the first play of the season for the Pioneers 52-yards to the house to take a 7-0 lead. DeKalb County took the next possession down to the Pioneer 22-yard line before Taylor made his presence felt again.

Late in the snap count Taylor moved from his deep safety position, down inside the box. Taylor blitzed off the right side of the defense and hit DeKalb County quarterback Axel Aldino in the backfield at the mesh point. Aldino fumbled and the Pioneers recovered.

The CJ Taylor show continued as Taylor scored from 50-yards out only six plays later as the Pioneers took a quick 14-0 lead.

The Tigers found pay dirt on the next drive as Aldino connected with wider receiver Isaac Knowles on a 29 yard touchdown pass. The point after was no good.

Taylor threw a 20-yard touchdown pass on the next drive to push the Pioneers lead back to 14. The Tigers, Desmond Nokes, hauled in a 43-yard touchdown pass from Aldino to get it back to a one score game with a little more than a minute to play in the first half. At the half the Tigers trailed Warren County 20-12.

After the teams traded fumbles on their first drives of the second half Aldino hit Trevonte Alexander on a 43-yard touchdown strike. The two point conversion failed and the Tigers trailed 20-18.

Warren County tacked on a field goal and a one-yard Taylor touchdown to push their lead to 12 points at 30-18.

Aldino connected with Alexander again on a 15 yard touchdown pass with 3:46 to play in the fourth. Another failed two-point try left the Tigers down 30-24.

The Pioneers were able to run out the rest of the clock in the fourth quarter behind two, 20 plus yard runs from Taylor.

Warren County (1-0) will host Cannon County, in McMinnville, for their home opener. DeKalb County (0-1) will host Upperman next week in Smithville with both teams in search for their first win.
