Tigers’ Chew Wins District Tournament, Golfer Of The Year

DeKalb County golfer Anna Chew continued her stellar senior season in Monday’s District Tournament when she finished first overall amongst all female golfers and was named the 2019 Player of the Year.

In her second tournament of the season at the Golden Eagle Country Club, Chew shot a 73 to claim first-place individually.

Chew’s first regular season tournament at the country club was the Early Bird Tournament in August, where she placed second overall. DeKalb Head Coach John Pryor said that Chew’s performance was a product of her familiarity with the Golden Eagle course.

“She loves this course,” Pryor said. “She came up and played it this weekend, so (next Monday) will be the third tournament she’s played here this year … she’s very familiar with this course.”

Chew will have another chance to play the course when she competes in next Monday’s Regional Tournament, and her coach says that he’s proud of everything she’s accomplished thus far.

“She works so hard,” Pryor said. “She works with some people and plays a lot in the summer. Being a good golfer doesn’t just happen, she has worked and earned every bit of (her success).”
