Thursday Night Hoops Recap: Upperman Takes Down York Institute
Upperman 55, York Institute 52 (Double OT)
The Bees earned a hard-fought district win over York Institute to put themselves in first place all alone.
Upperman now sits at 11-1 in league play, a full game lead over second-place York.
Collin Gore led all scorers with 26 points, while A.J. Nash scored 10 points.
Upperman’s next contest will be on Tuesday at Cannon County, while York will play at Macon County on Friday.
Clarkrange 74, Cumberland County 37 (girls)
Cumberland County 87, Clarkrange 52 (boys)
The Buffaloes split a doubleheader with Cumberland County, as the boys fell by an 87-52 count.
The Lady Buffaloes used their tough press and a hot start on offense to take down the Lady Jets by a 74-37 margin.
Kassie Monday led all scorers with 28 points, while Chloe Howard and Kaylie Monday each added 12 points.
Abby Houston led the Lady Jets with nine points.
Cumberland County will take on Grundy County on Saturday, while Clarkrange hosts Gordonsville on Friday.
Van Buren 67, Grundy County 53 (girls)
The Eaglettes outscored Grundy County by a 17-8 margin in the first quarter, and rode the momentum to a 14-point win on Thursday.
Emily Allen scored a game-high 21 points for the Eaglettes, while Layla Bouldin added 15 of her own. Chloe Hillis and Greta Rigsby each just missed double figures with eight points.
Van Buren will take on Whitwell on Tuesday.
