Thursday Around UC Sports Nation: 29-0 Start Propels Livingston Girls Past Stone Memorial

The Livingston Academy Lady Wildcats basically had victory wrapped up before the first period ended in Thursday night’s District 7-3A clash with Stone Memorial. The Lady Wildcats scored the game’s first 29 points and never looked back in a 69-35 rout of the Lady Panthers in a make-up game from Tuesday night. Seven LA girls scored in the opening period, as the game was well in hand by the time senior Katie Adkisson drained a three-pointer to put the Lady Panthers on the board for the first time. Livingston led 31-3 after one, and 46-14 at the half.

Aleah Melton led the Lady Wildcats (17-2, 5-0 District) with 14 points, while Keaton Webb added 11. Ellie Butler and Mallie Coleman each reached double-figures with 10 points each. Adkisson, the lone senior on a young Lady Panther team, led all scorers with 17 points. Stone Memorial dropped to 7-10 overall and to 2-3 in the district.

Meanwhile, the Wildcats had to rally from a nine-point second half deficit to beat the visiting Panthers, 54-52. Livingston trailed 33-24 early in the third, but cut the deficit down to two by the end of the period. Trailing by two with no timeouts in the closing seconds, Stone Memorial had a chance to tie or take the lead, but seemingly lost track of time and did not get a shot off before the final buzzer sounded. Isaac Story scored 17, and Nick Choate added 15 for the Wildcats (10-8, 4-1) won for the fourth time in the last five games, and pulled into a tie with Cumberland County for first place in the district. Cade Capps led the Panthers (9-8, 3-2) and all scorers with 24.

Elsewhere in the Upper Cumberland on Thursday, Ella VanVranken scored 15 points to lead the DeKalb County Lady Tigers (12-8, 2-4) to a 59-32 victory over the defending Class AA State Champion Macon County Tigerettes. Macon County is still seeking its first win in District 7-3A in a rebuilding season for the program. The DeKalb County Tigers were winners in the boys’ game, 67-49, as Connor Close pumped in 21 points.

Monterey swept Bledsoe County in District 5-2A action. Lindsey Wright paced the Lady Wildcats (5-14, 1-1) with 24 points in a 59-43 win, while Silas Randolph put up 21, as the Monterey boys (8-13, 1-2) claimed the nightcap, 78-47.

York Institute claimed a pair of victories at Sequatchie County. Gabby Beaty scored 16 points to lead the Dragonettes (12-4, 2-0) to a 50-38 win, while the Dragons (13-6, 2-0) topped the Indians, 75-65.
