Stone Girls Take Control Of District Against Lady Cavs

Stone Memorial’s girls basketball team improved their District Six, 3A record to 3-0 with a 61 to 50 victory over Cookeville, Tuesday night in Crossville.

Stone Memorial owned a 22 to 19 halftime lead. The Lady Panthers outscored Cookeville 17 to 7 in the third quarter to take control of the game.

The Lady Cavaliers scored 24 forth quarter point to Stone Memorial’s 22 to close out the game.

Stone Memorial had a free throw line advantage against the Lady Cavs. Stone Memorial hit 24 of their 27 attempts compared to Cookeville who hit 13 of their 15 attempts.

Emma Capps scored a game high 23 points for Stone Memorial. 15 of Capp’s points came in the second half. Tessa Miller also broke to 20 point barrier with 21 points of her own. Miller hit 11 of her 12 free throw attempts.

Katie Dunaway led Cookeville in point with 12 and Liv Shipman added 10 points of her own.

The win for Stone Memorial was their twelfth win in a row and improves their regular season record to 19-1. The Lady Panthers will play again this Saturday against Clarkrange in Fentress County.

The loss is Cookeville’s first district loss of the season. Cookeville’s record drops to 15-5 overall and 2-1 in district play. The Lady Cavaliers play again Friday night on the road in McMinnville against the Lady Pioneers.
