Sensational Sophomore Amonett Selected To TSWA All-State

Pickett County’s Zach Amonett was recently selected to the Tennessee Sports Writers Association Basketball All-State first team.

As a sophomore, Amonett led the Bobcats the the regional semi-final game and one win away from the sectional round in boys basketball state tournament. The Bobcats season ended against Clay County in the regional semi-finals.

The Bobcats finished the season with a 19-13 record and a 7-7 record in District Six, Single A play. Pickett County saw a vast improvement from Amonett’s freshman season to his sophomore year as a team.

In the 2018-2019 season, the Bobcats took a team with zero seniors, final record stood at 11-16 overall and 3-11 in district play. That record put the Bobcats in last place as the district tournament started.

A year later, the Bobcats one game out of fourth place in District 6. An important spot because the top two seeds in District 6 Single A receive a double bye, in the district tournament, and the third and fourth seeds earn a one game bye.
