Quarantine and Answer: Panthers Baseball Trent Stokes

Social Distancing is a phrase that will forever be apart of our vocabulary as we move forward. We are going to do a series of questions and answers with coaches across UC Sports Nation and how they cope with this unique time, not only in America but in the World.

Our next coach in the series is Trent Stokes. Stokes is the head baseball coach at Stone Memorial High School.

Question:

What does a typical day in quarantine look like for you right now?

Answer:

Just really worry right now. Worry if we are going to be able to get back. Worry about how my kids are going to be with all this time off. Worry about the field and worry about nation as a whole right now.

Question:

Have you read anything good lately?

Answer:

I’ve spent more time talking with my peers more than anything right now. I just played 18 holes with a basketball coach.

Trying to talk strategy and the mental part of what they do within their teams. We have a lot of similarities within our sports even though they are different.

On how we motivate and inspire and partially play a psychologist as a head coach in high school sports.

Question:

What is something good you’ve watched on TV or Netflix?

Answer:

I have watched Black Mirror and The Tiger King, that show was unreal. That story is just so crazy because you have murder, friends back stabbing each other.

People setting up each other with the police. On top of all of that, and that’s a great show within itself, you have these dudes walking around with grown tigers and getting dragged to the ground by them. I mean it was nuts.

I have no idea how you walk in there with a pin full of tigers and are just at ease with it. They would smell my fear!

Question:

What has been on the menu at the Stokes household?

Answer:

We have been doing a lot of cooking. I did a corn beef brisket that I’ve never done before, for St. Patty’s day. I just put a glaze on it with some brown mustard.

We have been doing a lot more cooking at the house though that’s for sure. You know, during season, you eat out so much because you’re constantly on the run.

Seeing how much I’m saving by eating in is probably going to curtail my habits in the future probably.

Question:

Have you done anything fun with your girlfriend during this time of quarantine?

Answer:

Well, the honey-do lists for sure! The only things I’ve been able to do outside lately is working on the field and I’ve been playing a lot more golf.

Question:

How has your daily routine changed because of COVID-19?

Answer:

I’ll say this, the first three or four days where we were kind of limbo, kind of wake up and not really have any reason to keep going immediately and just kind of lounge around.

Now with kind of those first three or four day with waking up without a purpose before I go to bed at night I jot down at least three or four things I want to accomplish for tomorrow.

That way when I wake up I have a check list to knock off. That way I have a reason and purpose. Ok I have knocked off my four items I can lounge around a little bit if I want to.

I get antsy in the summer. I’m probably an odd ball as a teacher. I like routine a lot more than just having ample time off. I’m ready to get back.

Question:

What type of music are you listening to while you’re on the golf course?

Answer:

Most of the time, I wouldn’t say it’s a certain style of music, because I listen to rap, country, rock anything really. It’s more of an era of music. I try and stay within the mid to late 90’s and the early 2000’s.
