Quarantine and Answer: Amanda Harris Lady Blue Devils Softball
Social Distancing is a phrase that will forever be apart of our vocabulary as we move forward. We are going to do a series of questions and answers with coaches across UC Sports Nation and how they cope with this unique time, not only in America but in the World.
Our next coach in the series is Amanda Harris. Harris is the head coach for the Lady Blue Devils in Jackson County.
Question:
What does a typical day in quarantine look like for you right now?
Answer:
Pretty much helping three kids with schoolwork. Trying to practice their sports with them here at the house. Just trying to stay busy.
Question:
What is one thing you’ll look forward to doing the most when the quarantine and social distancing ends?
Answer:
Honestly, getting back into the sports aspects with my kids. Because I spend so much time with my kids on a field or in a gym it just doesn’t feel right not being there.
Question:
Have you read anything interesting lately?
Answer:
Just some history stuff right now because I teach eighth grade social studies. I have been reading chapters of that and kind of refreshing my memory on all of that with trying to teach online.
Question:
Have you started cooking at home more now during the quarantine?
Answer:
Oh yes, a lot more. I make tater wedges. I just take regular potatoes and just slice them up and season them my own way. I kind of have to season them according to who is in the house. My girls like them plain and my son like them as hot as I cam make them.
Question:
What way are you and your family trying to exercise?
Answer:
One of my girls is a pitcher for Jackson County High School and the other one plays first base. So we do a lot of throwing and catching. My little boy plays soccer so just trying to get out there and kick around with him and keep his. They all three play basketball we shoot and work on ball handling. Really try to stay active and moving.

What’s a good TV or Netflix show you’ve watched recently?
Answer:
All American
Question:
Are you getting up and getting dressed or lounging around in your PJ’s for most of the day?
Answer:
It kind of depends on the day. We have had a few days where we have lounged around and not done anything. But for the most part we try to get up and get ready and carry on as normal as we can. We do watch a few more movies than we normally have in the past.
Question:
What’s a good movie you have seen lately?
Answer:
Full Out. It was a really good gymnastics movie based on a true story, of a girl that got hurt and had a metal rod in her leg. It was a really good movie.
Question:
What kind of music is playing on your iTunes right now?
Answer:
A little bit of everything. Because my kids and myself love everything. We listen to edited Kid Rock, to old school Merle Haggard and Waylon Jennings and everything in between. I pride myself in telling my kids that they have to like all types of music.
Question:
Have you been able to do anything memorable as a family during this time of quarantine?
Answer:
We have played some board games. We usually don’t get a lot of time because we are in the gym or at ball fields so much. We usually spend a lot of our family time mowing and working on the fields as a family. We do a lot of hunting also and it’s about the start up for turkey hunting. We are all looking forward to getting to go hunt. One or two will go with me and the others will go with my husband.
