Monterey Holds On For Win Over Buffaloes

The Monterey Wildcats boys basketball team saw a 16 point first half lead dwindle to single digits after halftime in a 69 to 58 road win over Clarkrange Friday night.

Monterey held a comfortable 43 to 27 advantage at halftime. Clarkrange put up 20-points in the third quarter to Monterey’s nine to draw within five. The Wildcats offense picked back up in the fourth quarter as they outscored Clarkrange 17 to 11 to extend the final deficit back to double digits.

Clarkrange hit eight, three point shots on the night compared to nine made threes from Monterey. The Wildcats went 14 of 17 from the free throw line and Clarkrange hit 10 of their 13 free throw attempts.

Monterey’s Peyton West led all scorers with 20 points, six assist, and four steals. Kevin Borjas and Silas Randolph each scored 10 points each.

Nate Hall scored a team high 19 points for Clarkrange. Gatlyn LaRue added 12 points and Keith Whited contributed 11.

Monterey improves to 21-4, 9-2 on the season, with the win, and they host Gordonsville Tuesday night.

The Buffaloes fall to 5-21, and 1-11 in district play. Clarkrange will host Trousdale County in Fentress County, Tuesday night.
