Monterey Advances Two Golfers To Regional Play

The Monterey golf team will send two golfers to the Regional Tournament after their finishes in the District 7A Tournament on Monday.

Senior Hunter Grubbs finished first amongst the girls as an individual with a 73 score. She put up a 39 on the front nine, before finishing strong on the back nine with a 34.

Grubbs said that she saw positives from each phase of her performance in the district tournament win.

“I was pretty happy with my game today,” Grubbs said. “I was putting well…I knew if I performed and putted well, I’d be fine.”

With the temperature in the high 90s all day, Grubbs maintains that facing the heat was one of her biggest challenges.

“It’s not really bad on ball flight, it just wears you out,” Grubbs said. “It makes you sweat, so you have to make sure you hydrate a lot in the heat so you don’t tire down as quick.”

Isaac Howard finished in fourth place overall amongst the boys on Monday with a score of 86. He will join Grubbs in the Regional Tournament on Sept. 26.

Other finishers for Monterey included Jonathan Holloway’s 116, Travis Atkins’ 120 and John Looney’s 125.
