Monday Night Girls Hoops Recap: LA Earns First Sweep Over Pickett Co Since 2013-14

Livingston Academy 44, Pickett County 37

The Livingston Academy Lady Cats defeated the Lady Bobcats of Pickett County for their first series sweep of Pickett since the 2013-14 season on Monday by a final score of 44-37.

Pickett County took a 16-9 lead at the end of the first, but that lead was cut down to just three points at halftime. The Lady Cat defense really kicked in in the second half by only allowing 15 total points to earn the victory.

Aleah Melton led the way with 15 points for Livingston, who are now winners of four in a row.

Kyndal Ludick led the Lady Bobcats with 16 points.

The Lady Cats will get back into District play on Tuesday, as they host Upperman. Pickett County’s next contest will be against Red Boiling Springs.

York Institute 57, Oneida 39

The Dragonettes earned their third straight win on Monday with a 57-39 decision over Oneida.

York took a 12-point lead into the fourth quarter, and the defense only allowed five points in the final frame to clinch the victory.

Gabby Beaty led all scorers with 17 points, and Haylee Johnson followed close behind with 15 points. Laci Patton was the only other Dragonette to finish in double figures with 10 points of her own.

York will host Cookeville on Tuesday for their next contest.

Van Buren 48, Jackson County 35

The Eaglettes locked down on defense in the third quarter, leading them to a 48-35 win over the Jackson County Lady Devils.

The aforementioned third quarter saw the Lady Devils score a single basket and only two points, while Van Buren scored 14 points to take a 43-22 lead into the final frame. Jackson County outscored Van Buren 13-5 in the fourth, but it wasn’t enough to complete the comeback.

Riley Scoggins led all scorers with 12 points for Van Buren, while Layla Bouldin added 11 points.

Jacklyn Agee led Jackson County with eight points.

Van Buren will travel to Sale Creek on Tuesday, while Jackson County will hit the road to Celina for a date with Clay County.
