Livingston Soccer Wins District 6-2A Championship; Cookeville Falls Short in Title Game

The Livingston Academy Lady Wildcats have dominated District 6-2A this season. Cumberland County did not make it easy, but the Lady Wildcats eked out a 2-1 victory in the District Tournament Championship Game, Thursday night in Smithville, to keep their record intact – 12-0 – against District foes this season.

The victory was the third of the season for the Lady ‘Cats (14-5-1) over the Lady Jets (11-4-3), who placed second in both the tournament and the final regular season standings. Livingston blanked Cumberland County, 4-0, in their first meeting of the season back on September 2 in Livingston, but the Lady Jets were much tougher the second time around, as the Lady Wildcats escaped Crossville with a 2-1 win on September 27.

Both teams will move on to the Region 3-2A Tournament, with Livingston hosting the runner-up from the District 5-2A Tournament, either Kingston or Anderson County, while Cumberland County will travel to take on the District Champion. Livingston Academy is familiar with both potential opponents, having tied Kingston (13-0-2), 2-2, in the season opener for both teams back on August 17. The Lady Wildcats, meanwhile, lost to Anderson County (10-3-2), 3-1, on September 28. Cumberland County did not play Anderson County in the regular season, but tied Kingston, 4-4, back on October 5.

Despite District Championship Loss, Cookeville Moves On To Region
The Cookeville Lady Cavaliers fell short in their hopes of winning the District 7-3A Championship, Thursday night in Mt. Juliet. The Lady Cavs (10-5-4) scored the first goal of the match, but the Lady Bears (14-2-1) tallied three unanswered goals within the first 20 minutes of regulation. Neither team would find the net again, as the match settled into a defensive battle. Cookeville dropped to 0-2-1 vs. Mt. Juliet this season. The Lady Bears escaped with a 1-0 home win on September 7, while the teams played to a 1-1 tie on September 28.

Cookeville will advance on to Region 4-3A Tournament semifinals, and will travel to Murfreesboro to battle Oakland (10-3-2). Mt. Juliet will host Siegel (8-4-3) in the other semifinal.
