Lady Panthers Advance To Semi Finals Of State Championship

Emma Capps has a team high seven points for the Lady Panthers.

At halftime the Lady Panthers led 31 to 18 over Science Hill. Capps leads all scorers with 13 points and she added three rebounds. Defensively, in the first half Stone Memorial has created nine turnovers.

Science Hill cut into the Lady Panthers lead as the fourth quarter beings. Stone Memorial leads by with a score of 47 to 40.Science Hill began to full court press the Lady Panther in the third quarter to create a few turnovers.

The Lady Panthers were able to keep Science Hill at bay as they win their quarterfinals matchup 61 to 46.

The key to the game was the mismatch in the paint, something that Head Coach Mike Buck said has been there all year and is largely in part to the sacrifices made by his perimeter guards.

“We have a lot of buy in,” Buck said. “We have guards who are capable and are willing to sacrifice for the name on the front of the jersey. They sacrifice their numbers a lot of times because we do have mismatches on the inside.”

Capps finished with a game high 25 points for Stone Memorial and Tessa Miller added 14 points of her own. After leading all scorers for the game, Capps said afterwards that her shot was working before the game and that she had confidence because of it,

“I just felt it in warmups that i was in rhythm today,” Capps said. “That’s that great thing about having these awesome teammates is that when I’m hot and I’m feeling it I’m going to get the ball when I need it and where I need it. I know that any given night they can be hot and I’m going to get it to them.”

The Lady Panthers will play the winner of Whitehaven and Maryville on Friday at 10 A.M.
