Lady Wildcats Battle Back But Van Buren Holds On

The Van Buren County Eaglettes saw an early lead slip away at the end of the third quarter but maintained their poise as they beat Monterey 47 to 43 on the road.

The Lady Wildcats fell behind 11 to five after the first quarter. Monterey outscored Van Buren County by two in the second quarter and by four in the third quarter to tie the game up at 32 as the game went into the fourth quarter.

Van Buren County’s Emma Scoggins took over in the final stanza as she scored 10, fourth quarter points. Scoggins made six trips to the free throw line, where she hit seven of 12 attempts. Scoggins also hit her only three of the night in the fourth quarter.

Scoggins finished the night with 15 points while her teammate Layla Bouldin added 13 points. The Eaglettes finished 15 of 27 at the free throw line and as a team they hit six shots from behind the three point line.

Monterey also hit six shots from three and the Lady Wildcats finished seven of 14 from the free throw line. MacKenzie Raleigh scored a team high 15 points and Lindsey Wright added 12 points.

The loss drops the Lady Wildcats to 4-16, 0-7. Monterey jumps back into district play Tuesday night on the road at Red Boiling Springs.

With the win Van Buren County improves their record to 11-6, 1-1. The Eaglettes play again Tuesday in district play at South Pittsburg.
