Lady Panthers Hold Onto Second Half Lead At East Hamilton

The Stone Memorial girls basketball team earned a hard fought victory, in the first round of the region tournament, on the road against East Hamilton 62 to 60.

The Lady Panthers trailed by one at the break 25 to 24. Stone Memorial outscored East Hamilton 24 to 15 in the third quarter, to take an eight point 48 to 40 lead into the final quarter of play.

Stone Memorial withstood a 15 point fourth quarter from McDonald’s All American, Madison Hayes, to hold on for the two-point victory.

Neither team could establish much of an advantage from three, or the free throw line. Each team connected on seven shots from behind the arch. East Hamilton hit nine of their 12 free throw attempts while Stone Memorial hit seven of their 11 tries.

Tessa Miller led the Lady Panthers in points with 23. Annah Goss added 14 points of her own and Emma Capps rounded out the double digit scorers with 11 points.

With the win the Lady Panthers advance to take on White County, Monday night at 7:30, in the region semi-finals, at Sparta.
