Lady Cavs Volleyball Advances To State, Will Play Science Hill

The Cookeville Lady Cavs took another step towards their ultimate goal of winning State this year on Thursday when they defeated Coffee County by a final score of 3-0.

The Lady Cavs now know who they will be playing on Tuesday in Murfreesboro, as they will take on Science Hill at noon at Siegel High School. The Lady Toppers bring in a record of 28-4 and have won their last seven matches.

In those same matches, Science Hill has only lost six total sets. Cookeville comes into this match as winners of their last five matches, as well as 10 of their last 11 matches. In those matches, the Lady Cavs have controlled the games from the outset by only losing four total sets.

One key player of late for the Lady Cavs has been Sophomore Setter Blair Cherry. In the Region Tournament against Bradley Central and Cleveland, Cherry notched 11 kills, 13 aces and 30 total assists. Heading into their Substate Match with Coffee County, she ranked 12th in the state with 62 total aces.

For the Lady Cavs to contend, she, along with Seniors Mattie Arnett, Blake Cherry, Meredith Herndon and Katherine Roberts, will have to continue that excellent play.

It all gets started at noon at Siegel High School on Tuesday when the Lady Cavs meet Science Hill in the first round of the State Tournament.
