Lady Cavaliers Cross Country Wins Region

Five Cookeville girls cross country runners finished in the top 15 at the Region Three state qualifying race in Cookeville on Tuesday.

Landri Wilcox of Cookeville finished first over all with a time of 18:45.

Annie Kate McDermott finished third overall with a time of 20:50.

Emily Coonce crossed the line in sixth with a time of 22:18.

Cookeville teammates Maddie Long and Elizabeth finished the race in 14th and 15th with times 24:04 and 24:21 respectively.

Per Cookeville cross country coach Bill Wrasman, this marks the 23rd year in a row that either his girls or boys team has qualified for state.

“We would not be here without assistant coach Chris Mussard,” Warsman said. “We have lost our top two runners, on the boys side, two years in a row. That says a lot about our training and conditioning. (Mussard) puts together a plan for each of our runners individually for them to go out and get better each day.”

Cookeville will compete as a team at the State Championship on Saturday November 2nd at Steeplechase in Nashville.
