Hard Work, Renewed Energy Leading Turnaround For Cumberland County Football

No one may have expected much from the Cumberland County Jets football team going into this season. And for good reason – the Jets had not won a game on the gridiron since 2016 (they were granted a forfeit win over Powell in 2018, and a COVID forfeit victory over DeKalb County in 2020). Prior to August 20 of this year, Cumberland County football had lost 36 straight on the field, dating back to October 28, 2016, when they scored their last win – a 13-12 squeaker over Chattanooga Christian. The Jets had lost 10 straight going into that game, giving them 46 losses in their last 47 actual football games.

The turnaround for the program began some 18 months ago, when Cumberland County hired Noah Repasky to be its new head football coach. Repasky had been part of winning programs at Upperman and Cookeville prior to his arrival in Crossville, so he knew it was going to take a lot of work to turn the Jets program around. The hard work is starting to pay off, as evidenced by a 35-0, season-opening win at Whitwell, and a 17-7 victory over Lenoir City in Week 4. Still, Repasky knows there’s much more work to be done.

Joseph Staton of UC Sports Nation talked with Coach Repasky about the team’s turnaround and expectations for the future.
