Bees In Striking Distance Of Third Place At State Golf Tournament

The Upperman Bees boys golf team shot a combined score of 358 Monday in Manchester, in the first round of the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association’s state tournament.

“The weather has been a whole lot different today that it has all year,” Upperman head coach Joey Jones said. “The weather had a little bit to do with it but a lot of it is the atmosphere of the state tournament. As bad as we played today I think tomorrows going to be a better day.”

The boys shot 31 strokes over their state qualifying score at the region tournament.

Upperman currently sits 10 strokes behind Gibson County in third place.

“We definitely have the capability to come out Wednesday and finish third,” Jones said. “It is just a matter if we can come out and perform and prove it.”

Upperman’s Juliann Johnson finished the first round on Tuesday in a four way tie for 2oth. Johnson tee’s off at 8:50 on Wednesday on hole number one at Willowbrook.
