Friday Night UC Hoops: The Clay/Pickett Rematch

The Clay County Bulldogs have been the number-one thorn in the side of the Pickett County Bobcats for quite some time. Just 10 days ago, the Bobcats – then the #1 ranked team in the State – hoped to finally get the upper hand over their long-time district nemesis, but yet again, it was not meant to be. Clay County held Pickett County to just five first-half points, while Grant Strong posted a double-double with 32 points and 13 rebounds in the Bulldogs’ 64-23 rout of the Bobcats. It was Clay County’s 13th consecutive win over Pickett County; the last Bobcat win came on February 16, 2018.

Tonight, the two schools square off yet again, this time with the Bulldogs (13-5) ranked #2 in the State, and the Bobcats (18-5) ranked #3. Clay County has already clinched a share of the District 7-1A Regular Season Championship, and a win tonight would give them the outright title.

The Pickett County Lady Bobcats (17-5) will also seek to enact some regular season revenge tonight, after Clay County (15-4) claimed a 50-43 victory, last Tuesday. Halle Buford led the Lady Bulldogs with 16 points in the win. Clay County and Pickett County currently share first place in the girls’ standings, with identical 6-1 records.

Here’s a look at tonight’s Upper Cumberland schedule:
