Friday Night Hoops Recap: Cookeville, Monterey Earn Tight Wins

Cookeville 64, Rhea County 56

The Cookeville Cavaliers fought back from a 14-point deficit to earn a region tournament berth with a 64-56 win over Rhea County.

The third quarter is where the Cavs made most of their head-way, as they outscored Rhea County 24-10 to take a 43-41 lead into the fourth quarter after trailing 31-19 at halftime.

Josh Heard did most of the damage for Cookeville, as he scored a game-high 18 points. Colin Gilliam added 10 points of his own, and Windle Oakley and Colin Ayers each added eight points.

The Cavaliers will face Warren County in McMinnville on Saturday.

Monterey 52, Clarkrange 45

The Wildcats and Buffaloes battled for all four quarters on Friday night, but it was Monterey who ended up moving on with a seven-point win.

The difference proved to be the third quarter, where Monterey outscored the Buffaloes 11-6 to take a seven-point lead into the final frame.

Brandon Dillon scored 14 points to lead the Wildcats, while LT Sullivan added 12 points. Silas Randolph was close behind with 11 points.

Anthony Cottle paced the Buffaloes with 15 points, followed by Haden Smith’s 14.

Monterey will now move on to face Trousdale County.

Warren County 63, Rhea County 29

The Lady Pioneers clinched a berth to the region tournament with a dominant win over Rhea County by a final score of 63-29.

Warren County won every quarter in taking over the game, with the biggest discrepancy being a 17-7 margin in the third quarter.

Kyra Perkins led all scorers with 14 points, while Sable Winfree scored 11 points.

Warren County will take on Cookeville on Saturday.
