Friday Night Around UC Sports Nation: Clay Co. Clinches District Championships

For the second time in the regular season, the Clay County Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs took down rival, Pickett County. The Lady Bulldogs rolled to a 64-47 victory behind 28 points from Abby Head, while the Bulldogs eked out a 46-43 win the nightcap, as Jeff Spivey tallied 16 points. With the pair of wins, both Clay County basketball teams clinch their respective District 7-1A regular season Championships. Both Pickett County teams finish second in the final district standings.

In other games Friday night, White County spoiled Senior Night in Livingston, with a doubleheader sweep. Nia Powers had 17 points and 13 rebounds, while Celeste Reed scored 16 and pulled down 11 boards, as the Warriorettes (20-4, 8-1 District) moved into first place by a half-game with a 64-61 win the opener. Thomas Paul netted 15 points in the nightcap as the Warriors (14-8, 5-4) ended a three-game district losing streak with a 51-28 win.

York Institute also moved a step closer to regular season titles for both the girls and boys, with a sweep of Jackson County, Friday night. Gabby Beaty scored 16 as the Dragonettes (17-5, 5-0) routed the Lady Blue Devils, 52-16, while Bryson Bilbrey knocked down 17 and Nic Smith added 15, as the Dragons (18-6, 5-0) took a 55-49 decision.
