Friday Around UC Sports Nation: Bouldin Tallies 32 in Van Buren County Win

Layla Bouldin is having an impressive season for the Van Buren County Lady Eagles. The sophomore added to her already impressive season résumé Friday night, matching South Pittsburg’s entire team output with 32 points, in the Lady Eagles’ 55-32 district romp. The win was the first in district play for Van Buren County (10-6, 1-1 District), who will travel to Whitwell on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, Warren County and Livingston Academy kept up recent hot streaks with big wins on Friday. The Lady Wildccats (18-2) continued to rely on their suffocating defense in a 76-15 rout at Lighthouse Christian to win for the 13th time in 14 games, while the Lady Pioneeers (18-3, 3-1) claimed their 14th win in 15 outings, with a 51-30 district rout of Shelbyville.

Clay County won their fourth straight and for the seventh time in eight games with a 49-36 win over Clarkrange, Friday night. The Lady Bulldogs (13-3, 4-1) trail Pickett County by one game in the District 7-1A standings, as the two teams set to square off on Tuesday night. The Lady Bobcats (15-6, 3-3), meanwhile, have lost four of their last six, including three of their last four district games.

Upperman lost their third straight district game, as the Lady Bees (15-5, 2-4) fell at White County, 45-41. The Warriorettes (16-4, 5-1) trail Livingston Academy by one-half game for first place in very competitive District 7-3A.

In boys’ action Friday night, Tre Monette nailed seven three-pointers and scored 23 points to lead Jackson County (13-4, 2-1) to a 75-40 blowout win over Sequatchie County.

Hunter Wattenbarger scored 16 points, Will Amonett added 14, while Jacob Amonett tallied 13 in Picket County’s 75-45 rout of Gordonsville. The Bobcats (17-3, 5-0) get set for a huge Tuesday night showdown with Clay County (11-4, 5-0), who got 36 points and nine rebounds from Grant Strong in a 76-40 win over Clarkrange.

Jyron McClellan had a career night for Upperman, with 17 points, seven rebounds and four steals, as the Bees (8-8, 3-3) stunned White County (12-6, 4-2), 62-41, in Sparta.
