Monterey Uses Ground Attack To Down Sale Creek

The Monterey Wildcats used their ground game to its full potential in their 35-12 season-opening win over the Sale Creek Panthers.

Senior quarterback Jordan Key threw his only touchdown of the game to open the scoring when he found sophomore receiver Chandler Bowden from six yards out to give Monterey a 6-0 lead.

Key ran for a touchdown of his own on their next drive, and thus began the rushing attack. On the Wildcats’ fourth drive, freshman Mason Bowman ran the ball in for his first career touchdown. Bowman added another touchdown in the second half, when he sped past the defenders for a 33-yard score.

Bowman finished the game with 116 yards on nine carries and two touchdowns. Junior Antony Soberanis added 97 yards and a touchdown of his own to complement Bowman.

Sale Creek finished with 65 rushing yards and 169 passing yards on offense.
