Dragons Prep for Gibbs, Tough Slate to Close Out Regular Season

The bye week likely could not have come at a better time for the York Institute Dragons. Like many teams in the Upper Cumberland, York had Week 8 off, which gave the Dragons a chance to heal some bumps and bruises accumulated throughout the season. The Dragons need as many healthy players as possible, with a tough stretch of games to close out the regular season and the playoffs looming.

This week and next, York Institute (3-4) will step outside Region play to battle a pair of challenging foes – both before a Week 11 showdown with Rockwood, who sits one spot ahead of the Dragons in Region 2-2A. A win in that final week would bump York up to the number-three seed for the upcoming playoffs.

This week, however, the focus is on Gibbs, a Class 4A school located in Corryton, a suburb of Knoxville. Like York, the Eagles (3-4) have a pair of non-Region games in Weeks 9-10, before an all-important Region game in Week 11.

York Institute coach Kerry Johnson joined UC Sports Nation to discuss Friday’s match-up, and what he’s looking for from his team as the regular season winds down.
