District Tournament Seeding On The Line For Lady Cats, York

The York Institute Dragonettes are set to take on the Livingston Academy Lady Cats on Tuesday in Livingston, a game with major implications for the district standings.

As things currently sit, York holds a one-game lead for third-place in the district over LA and DeKalb County. A Lady Cat victory tonight ties them for the third spot, giving them a potentially easier match-up in their first game of the tournament.

The key for York tonight lies with freshman Gabby Beaty, who’s coming off of an 11-point outing in a loss to top-ranked Macon County. She played well in the teams’ first head-to-head meeting of the season, as she scored 14 points to back up Haylee Johnson’s 17 in a 55-32 Dragonette victory.

She’ll likely draw the matchup with Hailey Cronk or Suzanna Hayes, and it’ll be an interesting one to watch.

Speaking of Cronk, she’ll be the key for the Lady Cats. Lately, Keaton Webb and Aleah Melton have given the team solid production from the perimeter in their latest wins. Webb supplied 16 points in the team’s Feb. 7 win over Watertown, while Melton scored 12 points against Macon County.

If Cronk is able to control the paint on defense, and score some paint points on offense, that’ll be the recipe for success for Livingston.

It all gets tipped off at 6 P.M. on Tuesday in Livingston.
