District 6A Tournament Bracket Released, Set To Begin Monday

The District 6A Tournament bracket is now out for the public, and the games will begin on Monday, Feb. 15.

The girls will play on Monday, Wednesday and Friday of next week, with the championship games taking place the following Monday on Feb. 22. Due to TSSAA rules, the higher seed of each game with host instead of it being hosted at one location.

Monday night will see two UC Sports Nation teams in action, as Jackson County and Monterey will each battle to keep their seasons alive.

The Lady Devils will host Trousdale County, while Monterey will head to Gordonsville.

The winner of Jackson County-Trousdale will then head to Red Boiling Springs, while the winner of Gordonsville-Monterey will take on Pickett County.

The two teams earning double-byes are first-place and 20-5 Clarkrange and second-place Clay County. Due to their double-byes, they both have automatically earned berths in the region tournament.

This is the Lady Buffaloes’ fifth consecutive year of earning the top seed for the tournament, and it marked the first undefeated district season for them since the 2017-18 campaign. In the two years in between, the Lady Buffaloes lost two league games, both of which were to Clay County.

On the boys side, games will be played on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday of next week, and the championship games will take place on Feb. 23.

Two UC Sports Nation teams will face off in the first round, as Monterey will host Clarkrange in a win-or-go-home style game.

Jackson County will take on the winner of Gordonsville-Red Boiling Springs in the second round, while the winner of the aforementioned Monterey-Clarkrange matchup will take on Trousdale County.

The winners of the double-byes are 21-2 Clay County and 17-6 Pickett County, meaning these two teams will also have automatic berths in the region tournament.

This is Clay County’s third consecutive season of earning the top seed in the district tournament, and it comes on the heels on last year’s trip to the State Tournament before Covid-19 caused it to be cancelled.
