DeKalb County High School’s Anna Chew Places Second At Early Bird Tournament

DeKalb County High School senior golfer Anna Chew felt that she had a great chance to win going into Monday’s Early Bird Tournament at the Golden Eagle Country Club.

Chew carded a 73, good enough for second place. Her performance in the short-game helped her finish strong, according to Chew.

“The greens were really nice today,” Chew said. “My putting helped me out a lot.”

Cleveland’s Hannah Nail finished two-under par with a 68, including birdies on the final six holes to close out the competition and complete the comeback.

“I’m not going to lie, it rattled me a little bit,” Chew said about Nail’s finish. “She is a very tough competitor and I knew that coming in at the beginning of the day, but I tried to not let it bother me and stayed steady throughout the day.”

Chew is looking forward to making it back to Cookeville for her district and region tournaments.

“The Golden Eagle Country Club is, kind of a shorter course,” Chew said. “I can sometimes get a driver and hit it up to close to 50 yards out, and hit a wedge into the green and that plays well to my game because I like wedges a lot.”

Chew will use Mondays match results as motivation for the remainder of the year.

“I know that I can play good,” Chew said. “I know what I did today mindset-wise and I will try and use that throughout the rest of my matches.”
