The York Institute Dragonettes used stout defense to keep Smith County off-balance, and it led to a 51-37 win for the Dragonettes.
While York struggled on offense in the first, it was their aforementioned defense that put them in the lead, and they led 5-3 heading into the second.
Both offenses got off the mat in the frame, and York out-scored Smith 16-12 to take a 21-15 lead into half. Smith County out-scored the Dragonettes 16-15 in the third, but the defense reared its head again in the fourth. They held the visitors to just six points and it led them to a 51-37 victory.
Haylee Johnson dominated on offense once again, as she scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Dragonettes to the win.
Emma Enoch scored 11 to lead Smith County.
York’s next contest will take place on Jan. 14, when they travel for a big test against Macon County.
