Cookeville Expects To Have Hands Full Against Upperman Thursday

One year removed from a 23-7 loss in week one against Upperman, Jimmy Maynord and his Cookeville Cavaliers know they will have their hands full again when they kick off their season against the Bees.

“We know Upperman returns a lot of players off of their semi-final team,” Maynord said. “We know they are going to be an excellent football team. They were a good football team last year. With that many returning starters, we anticipate a tough football game.”

Maynord knows that Upperman has tremendous confidence coming back from last season. He hopes is team is ready to play and plays better than they did in last year’s week one matchup.

“They got the best of us last year and they deserved that,” Maynord said. “They were more physical than we were. They were ready to play and for whatever reason, we didn’t play one of our better games … We know we are going to have to be ready to play.”

Cookeville and Upperman kick off their 2019 seasons under the lights at 7 P.M. on Thursday, Aug. 22, at Tucker Stadium in Cookeville, Tennessee.
