Cavs Baseball Splits Games At Sevier County

Cookeville’s baseball team split a pair of games of on Thursday afternoon in Sevier County. Cookeville beat Knoxville West, 2 to 1 in 10 innings in their first game. Knox West and Cookeville each accounted for seven hits through the game.

Colby Phillips struck pout five batters in six innings pitched. Jaden Reff and Jace Spivey each batted in one run each. Reff’s RBI came in the bottom of the tenth with two outs on the scoreboard. Layne Dale crossed home plate to give the Cavaliers the victory.

In the second game of the day against Knoxville Halls, the Cavaliers fell nine to four. The Cavaliers fell behind three to one in the first inning only to tie the game at three in the bottom of the third.

Halls tacked on three runs in the fifth and seventh innings for the win. The Cavaliers recorded eight hits on the game to only seven hits for Halls. However, the Cavaliers committed two errors in the field.

Dale threw five innings for the Cavaliers on the mound with five strikeouts and 17 first strike pitches. The Cavaliers play again Friday, against North Green High School.
