Cavaliers Control Game From Outset, Advance In District Tourney

The Cookeville Cavaliers boys basketball team won their first game of the District Six, 3A basketball tournament Tuesday night 54 to 45, against Rhea County in Sparta.

Cookeville never trailed at the end of any quarter on Tuesday night. The closest Rhea County drew was at halftime where the score was 23 to 19.

The Cavaliers relied on balanced scoring on the night as seven players scored at least four points. Cookeville knocked down six shots from beyond the arch and they went 12 of 20 from the free throw line.

Bailey Gilliam led Cookeville with 15 points and Kosta Bikakis added 11 points of his own. Braiden Brown, Lucas Reeves, Zach Hall, and Windle Oakley all scored six points each.

Cookeville will face top seeded White County Friday night at 7:30 in Sparta. White County won both meetings in the regular season. The Warriors won the first matchup, in Cookeville, by a final score of 82 to 72. White County defender their home court on February 4th with a 76 to 57 victory.
