Cavalier Football Ends Losing Streak Against White Co

The Cookeville Cavaliers earned their first win of the season, defeating White County 43-12.

Cookeville led 3-0 after the first quarter. Quarterback Stockton Owen then capped off a 10-play 75-yard drive with a 13-yard touchdown run to give the Cavs a 10-0 lead..

White County turned the ball over on their next possession, and Cookeville stretched their lead to 16-0 off a Jacob Stamps three-yard touchdown run.

The Cavaliers extended their lead to 22-0 before the Warriors got on the board.

The White County offense dialed up some trickery to find the end zone, as Sedryk Leftwich connected with Will Cheeks off a flea-flicker. Cheeks won a 50/50 jump-ball in the end zone for the score.

White County Running Back Will Griggs scored from five yards out on the opening drive of the third quarter, to pull the warriors within 10, but the Cavaliers scored 21 unanswered points to end the contest.

Cookeville rushed for 357 yards and six touchdowns against the Warriors, led by Cameron Harris who rushed five times for 143 yards and a touchdown.

Fellow Running Back Stamps rushed 10 times for 55 yards and three touchdowns.

Owen completed 6-9 passes for 102 yards, and added 12 rush attempts for 115 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

Griggs led the way rushing for White County with 11 carries for 52 yards and a touchdown. Jayden Richmond added 13 rushes for 49 yards.

Leftwich rushed 12 times for 35 yards and completed 6-12 passes for 83 yards and an interception.

Cookeville host the Oakland Patriots the number one ranked team in Class 6A. White County squares off against Walker Valley in Sparta.
