Bulldog Basketball Wins Late Thriller At York

The Clay County Bulldogs opened their season with a win on Friday, defeating the York Institute Dragons by a final score of 59-57.

After falling behind 37-31 at half, the Bulldogs made some key adjustments on defense in the third quarter. This led to Clay County out-scoring the Dragons by a 16-7 count, and they took a 47-44 lead into the final frame.

The fourth quarter was a back-and-forth slugfest that ended with a 59-57 win for Clay County.

Senior Jake Ashlock led the way with 18 points and seven rebounds for the Bulldogs, while Grant Strong added 14 points of his own.

Jeff Spivey recorded 11 points as the only other double-digit scorer for Clay County.

Clay County will travel to Van Buren on Nov.26, while York’s next contest will be on Dec. 2 against Stone Memorial.
