Boys Basketball Recap: Jackson Co, Clarkrange Pick Up Wins In Season Openers

Jackson County 70, Coffee County 59

Eli Burris scored a game-high 23 points in Jackson County’s 11-point win over Coffee County.

Andrew Allen added 11 points, and Ramon Cuevas scored 10 points of his own.

The only quarter the Blue Devils lost was the third quarter, which Coffee County won by a 17-13 margin, but Jackson County answered with a 20-point fourth quarter to seal the deal.

The Blue Devils’ next contest will be on Nov. 20 when they play at Columbia Academy.

DeKalb County 51, White House 48

The Tigers used an 18-point fourth quarter to win their season opener over White House by a final score of 51-48.

Jordan Young led the way on offense, as he scored a game-high 13 points. A bulk of that came in the final frame when he knocked down two threes, the last of which turned into a four-point play.

Brayden Antoniak added 12 points, and Luke Jenkins scored 11.

DeKalb will be back in action on Nov. 23 when they take on Warren County.

Clarkrange 67, Macon County 57

First-year Head Coach Shayne Monday earned his first win at the helm with a 67-57 decision over Macon County.

The third quarter proved to be the difference, as the Buffaloes out-scored Macon by a 25-15 tally en route to the victory.

Haden Smith scored 22 points to lead all scorers, while Evan Cantrell and Anthony Cottle each scored 17 points.

Clarkrange will host their Hall of Fame playday on Nov. 21.

Maryville 75, Stone Memorial 64

The Panthers got off to a slow start on Tuesday, and it proved to be their downfall in a 75-64 loss at the hands of Maryville.

Maryville took a 24-11 lead after the first quarter, and held a 36-26 advantage at halftime. The Panther put together a little more offense in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to complete the comeback.

Zach Boyd led Stone with 23 points, while Kaleb McCoy scored 12 points. Jack Eldridge added 11 points of his own.
