Big Fourth Leads Dragons To State Over Tyner

The York Institute Dragons advanced to the State Tournament with their 54-52 win over Tyner Academy on Monday.

The game started out in York’s favor, as they held a 19-17 lead at the end of the first. Tyner answered back by taking a 33-31 lead into the halftime break.

Tyner appeared to take control of the game by out-scoring the Dragons by an 11-6 count in the third, which meant York had to battle back from a 44-37 deficit to start the fourth.

The Dragons didn’t back down, and with their season on the line, they out-scored the visitors 17-8 in the final frame to clinch their berth in the State Tournament.

Noah Smith led York with 22 points, while Riley Cooper added 17.

Nieagell Sturkey paced TA with 13 points.

The Dragons will find out on Tuesday afternoon who they will be facing in the first round next week in Murfreesboro.
