An Upper Cumberland Look At Spring Fling 2021

Spring Fling begins on Tuesday, and while Baseball, Softball and Soccer season may be over around the Upper Cumberland, the area will still be well-represented in both the Track and Field events and Tennis.

Here is an in-depth look at who will be competing in Murfreesboro, beginning with the Small Class Track and Field Meet on Tuesday.

Beginning at 9 A.M., York Institute’s Mikaela Reagan and Gabby Beaty will take part in the High Jump and Shot Put, respectively. Upperman’s Ty Dutchess will compete in the Boy’s Discus competition as well at this time.

Following that at 10:15 A.M., York Institute will have three members of their team competing in the Triple Jump in Nehemiah Heddings, Hunter Rich and Jayden Blair. Rich and Heddings will join Chase Rich at 11 A.M. to compete in the High Jump, as well.

Beaty will also be back in action at that time, as she competes in the Discus competition.

Finally to end the field events, Reagan and Clarkrange’s Mattie Bush will each compete in the Triple Jump at noon, and Blair will take part in the Long Jump at 1:45 P.M.

Across Murfreesboro at the Adams Tennis Complex, Cookeville’s Girls Tennis Team will take on Franklin at 1 P.M. for an opportunity to play for the State Championship on Wednesday.

When the running events begin at 4 P.M., the proceedings head into overdrive mode. Both York teams will take part in the 4×100 and 4×200 relays, and individuals Thaddeus Thoman (300 meter Hurdles), Lori Cook (1600 meter) and Sophie Story (300m Hurdles) will also be in action.

Clarkrange’s boys team will take part in the 4×800 relay, and John Flowers will compete 110 meter Hurdles. On the girls’ side, Clarkrange will take part in the 4×400 relay, and Kaylea Fields will be in the 100 meter Hurdles competition.

And that is a wrap on Day One of Spring Fling. Is everyone still with me?

Wednesday for the Upper Cumberland is entirely reliant on whether or not Cookeville Girls Tennis defeats Franklin. If so, they will play in the Championship match against the winner of Collierville/Science Hill at 11:30 A.M. at the Adams Tennis Complex.

Now we get to Thursday, and with it comes the Large Class Track and Field Meet.

Warren County’s Ally Beneke will get the day started at 9 A.M. when she takes part in the Pole Vault, while Cookeville’s Stockton Owen and Clayton Barrett will each compete in the Discus competition.

Owen will follow that up at 10:15 A.M. when he competes in the Triple Jump.

At 11 A.M., White County standout Jakeb Davis will compete in the High Jump to close out the field events.

We head back to the Adams Tennis Complex at 12:30 P.M., as Cookeville Doubles team Maria Agbunag and Sarah Buchanan will face off against Siegel’s Laurel Rich and Morgan Penny. The winners of that match will head to the Semifinals at 4 P.M.

Back at Rockvale for the running events beginning at that same time, the Lady Pioneers of Warren County will take part in the 4×800 relay. Individual Ella VanVranken will also run in both the 800 and 1600 meter runs.

Cookeville’s Landri Wilcox will compete in the 1600 alongside VanVranken, and she will also face off against White County’s Evan Welch in the 3200 meter run.

For the boys’ running events, Owen will be back in action one more time in the 110 meter hurdles. Fellow Cavalier Jack England will take part in the 400 meter dash.

Finally, Cumberland County’s Treven McGhee will compete in the 300 meter hurdles.

Friday is like Wednesday in the sense that if that pairing of Agubnag-Buchanan win in the Semifinals, they will compete for a State Championship at 11 A.M. at the Adams Tennis Complex.

That is a complete wrap on Spring Fling 2021 for the Upper Cumberland, and be sure to check here everyday for highlights, photos and results for each event.
