With the conclusion of basketball on Saturday, we have now officially hit the ground running on spring sports around the Upper Cumberland.
Here’s a detailed look at what all is going on during this busy Monday:
Tennis
Livingston Academy At DeKalb County, 3:30 P.M. in Smithville
DeKalb County is looking build off of it’s win last week over White County Tennis, a match it won by a total score of 6-3 on the girls’ side and 7-2 for the boys.
This is Livingston Academy’s first official match of the year. DeKalb County’s Summer Morse and Caitlyn Harwell are two to watch for the girls, while Ian Paladino looks to continue his hot start to the season as well for the Tigers. He defeated White County’s Tyson Gooch last week 8-0.
Baseball
Upperman At Livingston Academy, 5 P.M. in Livingston
The Wildcats have won two of their three games so far this season, and held a lead in the tough 8-7 loss they took at Cookeville. Meanwhile in Baxter, the Bees have won the lone game they’ve played by a final score of 6-0 over Cumberland County.
This is the first of a two-game District series, as the same two teams will square off in Baxter on Tuesday.
Clarkrange At Jackson County, 6 P.M. in Gainesboro
The Buffaloes kick off their season with a two-game set against the Blue Devils of Jackson County, with the first game taking place tonight in Gainesboro.
The Blue Devils have played a single game thus far, a 21-0 loss at the hands of Macon County. District games always mean a little more, so these are more significant than other early season matchups.
Monterey At Pickett County, 5:30 P.M. in Byrdstown
Everything that was said about district matchups above can also be said for this game, as the Wildcats and Bobcats begin a two-game series.
Pickett took down Red Boiling Springs in their lone game thus far 14-4, while Monterey comes in at 1-1, also with a win over RBS.
DeKalb County At Smith County, 4:30 in Carthage
The Tigers defeated White County in their season opener by a final score of 7-5, and they’ll have district foe Smith County facing them down on the road.
