Five people were hospitalized after a crash involving a Los Angeles Fire Department ambulance in Arleta on Sunday night.
The crash occurred around 8 p.m. at the intersection of Woodman Avenue and Chase Street, according to an LAFD spokesperson.
The circumstances leading up to the crash remain unclear, but firefighters said the ambulance was transporting an 81-year-old woman and a 94-year-old man to the hospital when it collided with an SUV.
Along with the two people in the ambulance, three others were hospitalized. The 34-year-old man driving the SUV was in critical condition, while the ambulance driver and passenger were hospitalized in fair condition.
The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash.
SkyCal flew over the scene late Sunday, showing an SUV with heavy front-end damage sitting next to the ambulance. Crime scene tape blocked off the area as the LAPD investigation got underway.
