Serious Injuries Reported After Fiery Two-Car Crash in Scripps Ranch

A fiery two-car collision in Scripps Ranch on Monday left multiple people hospitalized with serious injuries. The crash, involving a white BMW and a red Tesla, happened around 5:40 p.m. at Spring Canyon Road and Blue Cypress Drive, according to Times of San Diego. After the impact, the BMW caught fire, and both vehicles were declared total losses.

The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department said all five hospitalized individuals suffered major trauma, with one person in critical condition. Department spokeswoman Candace Hadley noted that early reports mistakenly described the crash as involving five vehicles, but it was a two-car collision. Crews remained at the scene for an extended period to clear the wreckage, keeping Spring Canyon Road closed for over an hour.

NBC San Diego reported that the Tesla driver sustained life-threatening injuries. Sgt. Robert McDonald of the San Diego Police Department’s Traffic Division said one BMW passenger suffered significant injuries, while the other two had minor injuries. Another unidentified person was found lying in the street, though their connection to the crash remains unclear.

Sgt. McDonald stated that the Tesla was making a left turn when the collision occurred. Because Station 37 was nearby, firefighters responded quickly, which may have reduced further harm. The road reopened overnight, restoring normal traffic to the area after a harrowing evening.
