A 32-year-old man from North Carolina is in custody in the Florida Keys following a violent domestic incident early Wednesday that left a woman hospitalized with serious facial fractures.
Oliver William Wade Cunningham, of Concord, North Carolina, was arrested and charged with aggravated battery and domestic battery by strangulation.
Monroe County deputies responded to Boyd’s Key West Campground on Stock Island around 1:45 a.m. for a reported altercation. Officers found both Cunningham and the female victim with visible injuries.
The woman required immediate surgery for multiple facial fractures, including an orbital fracture. She was first taken to Lower Keys Medical Center and later airlifted to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital in Miami for trauma care.
Investigators say the couple had been drinking when a physical argument erupted, during which Cunningham allegedly choked the victim.
Cunningham was booked into Monroe County Jail on a $65,000 bond.
