A suspected burglar was arrested after using a stone to cut through a lanai screen and illegally entering a home in The Villages.
According to an arrest complaint from the Wildwood Police Department, Jeanne Trusewicz, 49, hacked her way into the lanai of a residence on Victor Court in the Village of DeLuna near the Water Lily Recreation Center in the early hours of Monday, presumably attempting to take a golf cart.
A resident noticed Trusewicz attempting to unhook a trailer off a golf cart. She hacked through the lanai screen with a sharp rock from the landscaping bed.
When police arrived and apprehended Trusewicz, she was in possession of the golf cart’s key as well as a sickle-style instrument that she acknowledged she had stolen from the house.
Trusewicz was arrested for stealing Florida Lottery tickets in 2023 while living with her parents in the Village of Pinellas and working at Circle K in Trailwinds Village.
She is now charged with burglary and was being held in the Sumter County Detention Center on a $25,000 bond.
