A 16-year-old Chicago teenager is facing charges after police say he pulled off two armed robberies an hour apart on the South Side, then got picked up downtown a few weeks later.
According to Chicago police, the first holdup occurred just before 5:30 a.m. On Oct. 9, a man was allegedly held at gunpoint inside a shop in the 3700 block of South Archer Avenue. Officers said a 58-year-old woman was robbed about an hour later in the 2400 block of West 103rd Street.
Officers apprehended the teenager about 10:11 a.m. Monday in the 0–100 block of North Wabash Avenue. Police also suspect him of breaking into a vehicle reported stolen on October 6 from the 10300 block of South Green Street.
According to FOX 32 Chicago, the teen is involved in both armed robberies and a trespass-to-vehicle case involving a previously stolen car from South Green Street. Detectives connected the incidents before arresting him on North Wabash Monday morning.
The arrest comes in the middle of a year in which Chicago police have frequently identified youngsters involved in armed robberies, carjackings, and other violent crimes. Hoodline has covered several of these cases, including a March report in which a 17-year-old was charged with armed robbery and aggravated vehicular hijacking; our previous look at that prior teen carjacking case detailed the accusations and court filings.
Police have not disclosed additional information regarding the continuing investigations or anticipated court dates. Officials have not discussed a probable motivation and have declined to provide any information. According to FOX 32 Chicago, the department is designated as the source of the publicly available information about the arrest.
