Los Angeles police shot a man Tuesday who they say was stabbing another person in the Westlake District. The LAPD said the shooting happened around 10:55 a.m. near Olympic Boulevard and Alvarado Street after a plainclothes detective saw an assault with a deadly weapon in progress.
According to investigators, the suspect was actively stabbing the victim when the detective intervened and opened fire. Officers took the 42-year-old suspect into custody, and he is reported to be in stable condition. The victim was rushed to a hospital in critical condition with a stab wound.
Aerial footage showed blood on the street beside a Metro bus, though transit officials confirmed the bus was not involved. A knife and brass knuckles were recovered at the scene.
LAPD’s Force Investigation Division is handling the officer-involved shooting investigation.
